I spray painted the oil cooler guard chrome. I felt the black plastic looked cheap and detracted from the overall aesthetic. Now that it's painted it looks cheap but doesn't draw your eye to it as much, it blends much better.
"Only bike" or "do it all bike" is always a loaded question. It depends on your use case.
For me, the R18 is a great bike to ride solo or with a passenger on smooth roads. It is not a great choice for potholed and cracked urban areas or getting offroad. It is not a great choice for track...
I don't know how much it would be to have insurance on just a R18, but adding it to my current bikes only added $180 a year to my insurance. That's about the same bump as my Triumph Speed Twin and much less than I was quoted to add a Indian Chief when I was shopping.
I'm curious about mods as well. My sweetie loves the look, but I'd like a few more dbs, but not Supertrapp loud or something like that. With other bikes drilling a couple 1/4" holes in the baffle plate did the job, but not sure that's going to work here. I'm curious what other people try.
Agreed. I rode a couple Harleys and the R18 back to back and the BMW is not lacking. My dealer set up the suspension on their demo bikes though, which makes all the difference.
Since they were going for a classic look, spoked wheels make sense. Heck, a few years ago on bikes with cast wheels Harley offered spokes as an upgrade. In the modern era spoke wheels cost more than cast wheels. If you want cast ones, wait until the 2022's are out and I bet someone with stock...
Thanks for the extra picture and the comfort ratings. That really helps. You rule!
I ordered a stock seat from ebay and when I get it I'm going to have a local shop work it over with gel and re-shape to try to keep it as low as possible and comfy for my sweetie. She took a spin in a parking...
I am late to this thread, but I wanted to share the handlebars on the Indian Scout are also 1" in the middle and 7/8" under the grip, which means any bars made for the Scout should work for the R18.
That may not be a lot more bars, but it's some options, at least.
I've had spoke wheels with inner tubes, spoke wheels without tubes and cast wheels on bikes. I haven't found any of the tires on my road going bikes to be subject to frequent punctures. Yeah, it's an additional cost to replace a tube when you replace a tire and in my experience tubes seem to...
So my bike came with the "Tall Comfort" seat. According to what I have read, that increases the seat height to 28" from 27.2", so it goes to figure it has an extra .8" of padding. I have read the BMW Custom Solo Seat drops that even lower than stock, to 26.8".
How does the Tall Comfort seat...
I have half your answer. I test rode a couple with the stock seat and found it lacking, even 10 minutes in. I just picked up one that has the tall comfort seat and I don't find that seat objectionable at all. Nor do I find it overly tall, either in body placement or aesthetics. It looks and...
Well, after looking at cruisers for 8 months I finally picked one. My local dealer had a price that I just couldn't pass up so I now have a shiny R18 in the garage now! I won't get a chance to ride it much until the weekend, but so far I like it. The handling is deliberate, the suspension...
