Ohhh good question! .. I tried the Metzler Cruisetec in the front and they seem to be a bit too soft for this heavy bike (FE narrow front tire). Started to 'cup' about 3000 miles in ... great tire, runs quiet and feels good ... but (IMO) maybe not the right tire for this bike ... was going to...
I use a Jurock in combination with the 'Classic' hardware ... I like it ... still have some 'buffeting', but it is coming from below not off the top of the windshield.
Interesting ... and I like the built in cable extension ... If you decide to go that route let us know please ... I went the 911 route and I really like it, but you are correct ... not exactly cheap ... and I also do all my own wrenching.
I bought these:

You have to be a little careful, the ad is a bit misleading ... you have to order 3 pieces by picking the picture of the right, left and rear cover you want. I got the black ones with the ridges machined into them. So a total of just over $60 for all 3 .. I really like...
That's not half bad ... thanks for the info!
EDIT: I just looked .. everybody appears to have gone insane with the prices!!! not only the levers .. the chest plate and Valve covers have doubled (+) in price !!!!
I did not noticed any change in performance (mine are removed) ... just a little more growling in idle and in low speeds ... no changes in throttle response or performance ... from what I can tell (seat of my pants, not dyno data)
... same, something to appease the authorities in Europe and Cali 😆
