Quick Shifter?

BMW R18 Bobber
A lot of bikes are bubbling with tech (BMW included) but the R18 is refreshingly simple while still giving you a few creature comforts like heated grips, abs, riding modes etc. Now I might get flamed when I say this, but the gearbox is not exactly the smoothest in the world :oops: so maybe a quick shifter will improve things.
Has anyone ventured into this area? What are your thoughts on the subject of tech in general
 
I'd welcome it only because my left thumb has been giving me issues making shifting more of a concern.

I'm going to try clutchless shifting when I get a chance.

Health makes a quick shifter kit that it says will work on a BMW R18.

For me the BMW 'clack' is part of the big boxer experience. If I would have wanted a smooth tarmac shaver, I would have bought a lightweight Honda.

It will probably work btw. The inertia of heavy flywheel is the main issue which is eliminated.
 
I had an S1000R with rearsets 5 up 1 down shift, riffle shot quick shifter, all the go fast gear an absolute weapon! and then I rode the R18 with that 'clunk' gear change, the engine shake and all the things that make the R18 what it is and I was sold. I don't know why I waited so long to get off sports bikes and get onto this beauty.
Probably won't take it to Phillip Island though.
 
Today went to a classic event. My retro sidecar fitted perfectly in.

On the way back stopped at a popular bike stop.
Several of the BMW boxers had quickshifter. Did not go/sound right to me apart from on the R12.

A bit off-topic and not at all intended as a criticism... The tractor-like 'clunk' is one of the endearing aspects for me. My R1150GS has been the same since new. Years ago, on a ride with a friend & his wife, she asked what was wrong with the GS as it sounded like a tractor. I replied, 'it is'! I rode smooth-riding Japanese bikes for years before buying the GS and appreciate their engineering, but I just like climbing onto a mechanical beast and admiring the machinery at work, kind of like an old belt-driven machine shop.
 
I installed one on my Triumph Rocket - it made gear changes amazingly smooth and fast.
I believe Translogic have one too, but at a much higher price
