Bullet hole in the TFT...

...not really, but if I could have reached my gun I'd have put one through it!!!
Went to ride yesterday and the Connect app half-ass connected to the bike. It started spouting navigation instructions to God knows where and would not allow me access to the nav screen to turn it off because it wasn't "connected".
Some days I think I'd be better off just duct taping over the whole screen. 😡
 
Funny... I went out for a short ride before the rain arrived this morning, and my BMW Connected App was also acting squirrelly ... and I was carrying concealed...

I couldn't get the music media to connect via Bluetooth and the Navigation wouldn't connect via Wi-Fi; I restarted my phone (Google Pixel) and everything restored as it normally does when I take my bike out..

Maybe try restarting your device and make an appointment for some anger management training..... 🤓

I guess I'm just getting frustrated with the performance of the technology overall. It has become a real distraction while riding.
The BMW navigation is terrible.
It is due for its first year service next month. Maybe the software will be updated then.
I guess I'm just going to start using the phone on a mount with ear buds to work around the BMW limitations. It's just sad.
 
Complain about the connection issues, that should push them to perform an update under warranty...

I wouldn't give up.. when I get my bike connected, it's pretty solid for the entire day..

I turn on the Done Not Disturb feature on my phone

Start my media music (YT or Prime)

Launch BMW Connect App

And Start the bike ...
 
Took mine out for a spin and used the Nav and wondered why it kept trying to take me on all these different routes and kept me off the interstate as much as possible when the route I was going was right on the interstate. Turns out my nav setting were set to "winding" so took me on an interesting route to get to where I needed to be. Kind of ignored it on the way home.

You can change that on the "fly" within the many sub menu settings on the TFT, or change it in the BMW Connect App..

Was not aware of that setting, first time seeing it. Was weird every time it would give a alternate road to go, it would display a small icon of a motorcycle.
 
Yeah.. I've been playing around with the Navigation Settings in order to get ready for a weekend trip up to Mt. Washington next week.. I'll be totally surprised if we actually pull this ride together, we plan it every year and somehow it gets cancelled ... We're six days away and the plan is still holding together...
 
I have a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway coming up this weekend. Other than music, it's going to be TFT free.
While the BMW nav has many settings, it's never been very reliable. It once told me to make an immediate right turn on bridge. Google and Waze have always been dead nuts accurate on the same phone.

Do you normally store your phone in the bike side cases while you ride? Just asking because that is the only time I really have issues with disconnects.
 
Not usually. I use the phone pocket on the bike or keep it in the front of my jacket. It's only done a mid ride disconnect once. Most issues I have involved a hosed up initial connection. How it's hosed up is sometimes not apparent until you're headed down the road.
 
OK, My issue is normally at home in my driveway since my cell is already joined to my home wifi it does not want to join to the R18 wifi till I am down the road and I have to remove my gloves to click yes
 
I hadn't thought about that angle. I wonder if already being connected to the home Wi-Fi when initializing is an issue?
 
This crossed my mind the very first time but in my case at least, I don’t think it is affected. Normally, if I am heading from home to a location I need guidance to arrive there, I set up the navigation whilst in my garage, which is underneath my house and it connects. I have had occasions where I am on the return leg, in the middle of nowhere and the 3D navigation simply does not connect, however, in cases like these, the basic 2D navigation always works, that is the one without the maps, only the turn by turn navigation with lanes selection, road names, count down to the next exit etc etc.

Next time you have the "2D Nav" if you check your phone you will see the 3D maps displayed on it. Normally all I have to do is click join wifi and the 3D map will switch back to the bike
 
Built in navigation is so much better than this phone connect stuff. Will give Harley Credit here. They have built in navigation.
