There are a lot of YouTube clips of uncorked Vance and Hines on an R18; i think the phone mics aren’t picking up the thump, the bike doesn’t sound like that… but go out to YouTube you can hear the bikes uncorked and it does sound good.
My advice is just do it. It sounds great

Here’s the best representation

Can someone provide a link to the Vance and Hines exhaust for the R18? On the V&H website the dropdowns only show the R Nine T models.

I think they are “officially” discontinued but some dealers have them in stock on their websites. I got mine from Cycle Werks in Barrington, IL (they are a BMW Dealer). I believe they also have an eBay page.

I just ordered a black set from Grand Rapids BMW (GRBMW) on eBay. I’ve ordered from them before and they’re great.

So, a follow up. Some of the packing must be loosening after about 500 miles. I removed the baffles at install but last night I went out and the bike was almost as loud as my thug dyna with “quiet” (only sounds like a helicopter engine) baffles. ANything above 2500 RPM and it was just magnificent

Are there two different lengths? One for the baggers and a shorter version for the base R18?

Yes I have put the Vance and Hines on my R18B and removed the baffles...it sounds great with out the baffles..
I know you sold the bike off, but looks like you powder coated the stock heat shields? I’m just realizing the V&H set is just the rear mufflers then, yeah?

Nice post indeed. I recently self installed these exhaust pipes in my R18 Transcontinental and also managed to remove baffles (short silencer pipes). The sound is not disappointing anymore, and I feel like money is not wasted in this after market product from Vance and Hines. Though, I am having a weird feeling when riding in RAIN mode. I am not an expert, but I think it is less torque. Does any one of you who is using these exhaust pipes and have the baffle removed feeling the same? Do I need to recalibrate my bike after the baffle removal?

Isn't that the point of RAIN mode?

RAIN mode helps prevents the rear wheel front breaking free on wet surfaces.

ROLL mode - improves fuel economy..

ROCK mode - equals WFO riding...

Personally... My bike is stuck in ROCK mode

I have driven with original exhaust in Rain mode almost 1000 KM so I know how it used to feel before. All I am saying is that there is a performance change felt after removing baffle. I read somewhere that performance can be fine tuned using BMW software but not sure how true it is.

When cruising around in town I use "Roll Mode". But on a highway commute it "Rock Mode" all the way. In town, the bike response is so quick in Rock that the bike is a bit jumpy.

I agree. Rock in local in-town traffic is as you say "jumpy" or too sensitive. Easy as pushing a button!

Hi guys!
Do you know are there any differences between V&H mufflers made for EU and US.
Specifically, can we get the DB killer out from EU designated mufflers? Will they sound the same as US designated mufflers?
