Ha! Had the same issue. Took a bit to spot it. Tried a longer cord with a 90° plug to the phone, but had to loop it around the compartment. Bit cumbersome and time consuming. The dumb bmw shorty is the way to go, even at $30.

BigJim, how long is the BMW shorty cable, and has it stood up to wear & tear?

I've used an 8" cable I found on Amazon, which worked well but did not last beyond 6k miles of use. The install required a sharp 90° bend going to the phone and I believe this is where the conductor failed. Bit at US$10 each, I can carry a spare.

I actually only just got the bike and the cable so I don’t have any good use review. The cable feels like it’s decent quality though. Overall, it’s just over 5”. Fits nicely in the compartment.
