I think that the BMW engine bars look nice.
I have already ordered the PierCityCustom bars, because I wanted them in black. They're 32mm in diameter. Hopefully they'll show up soon.

The price is right. I still prefer the clean look of the motor without.
I agree with you and TodkaVonic in so far as appearance. Those big heads and cylinders are sooooo pretty. But they're also very vulnerable if things go horizontal when they should stay vertical and vise versa.
That's also why I went with the black bars. I'm thinking that they won't detract from the R18s beauty so much. I'm hoping that they just seem like an extension of the bike's frame. When I get them, I'll report back here.

I hear ya. The fender should be steel and, someday, there will probably be several additional options. But my DK one just arrived in the States. It'll be on my bike in a couple weeks and I'll be enjoying it all season while others are, maybe, we think, coming to market. Basically, a known, attractive, and available item with faults is more palatable to me than an unavailable, hypothetical, and more perfect version of the same. A bird in the hand, my friend.

And I hate to break it to you, but, we're ALL first adaptors*

*except Red Sand, and maybe some lurkers. You get the idea.
It definitely beats this poor and more expensive attempt.

I prefer the DK to the Walzwerk. I'm all in for the art deco and pin striping galore. Its partly why I love the bike. Also I understand the practicality of the engine bar but it alters the look too much for me. Well, if I was a really practical guy I would never have bought the R18.

I most appreciate the longitudinal ridge which mimics the same on the forks, the engine cover, and the cylinder head covers.

The pinstripe color is a good match. The paint appears black, not Black Storm Metallic. Visually, it pulls the eye forward; balancing things nicely.

Not enough room between ridge and the front of the fender for my little BMW emblem, though.

Happy with the purchase:)

The fender looks great. One would normally associate bodywork ridges with other bodywork ridges rather than any on the engine, e.g. no ridge on the gas tank or rear fender - like, for example, a Victory Cross Country that features one along the entire length of the bike. Nevertheless, that same ridge will seriously address ABS's inherent lack of rigidity and most probably prevent it from flopping around in the wind. It is not as prominently featured on any of the photos on the DK Designs® website. They should include that, unless they specifically did not want it to stand out. How substantial is the thickness of the sides bolted to the forks? Did you consider adding SS fender washers when you mounted it?

[Takes out calipers] the thickness of the fender near the attachment points in just over 7mm. Yes, I considered some additional washers. The bushings (I think you referred to them as "bosses," I have no idea, Those flanged metal washers) take all of the force of the bolts. I surmised that adding washers would spread that force onto the fender around the attachment points. This feels worse to me than the current setup but I'm open to suggestions.
