BMW Illegally telling dealers that...

If you do not use their branded oil, and there's an engine issue under warranty, they will not honor it. I was told this by a dealer in Milwaukee, Wi. What sez U?

Tis bull shite! You can use any brand you want, as long as it meets the requirements. That's like saying you have to use their filters, tires, etc

I was unaware of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty law suite. And that was 11 years ago.

That's been the standard for a long time now. I remember in the context of modding cars. Total BS when companies try and pull this.

My dealer sold me a trans with 5 miles on it, then when he did the paperwork for financing with BMW, he put 211 miles on the paperwork, so I could get the 0.9% financing as a "demo."

Tell the Dealer to show that in writing. Page 118 of the service manual gives the spec for engine oil and that BMW recommends ADVANTEC Pro., not requires it. Over the last few years BMW had their labeled lubricants sourced from Castrol in Europe, Spectro in North America and now Shell universally. The spec engine oil is available from many quality brands and all one needs to do is keep receipts and records when doing their own vehicle servicing.
