The /5 represented a number of firsts, or at least changes for BMW. It switched to telescopic forks from links used in most previous models. It was the first line built in the Berlin factory where most bikes are currently built. It was the first “performance “ BMW and changed the perception of their bikes.

As a result, there were a lot of /5s sold. Probably easier to find a /5 than a /2. However, the “Toaster” tank version R2K and I have was only 72&73 and not very popular at the time, but has become more desirable over time.

The /6 & /7 kept many of the elements of the /5 but with some improvements like a front disc brake and 5 speed transmission. Worth expanding to look at the broader Type 247 Airheads as they had a long production run with many still running.
