I installed the Jekyll & Hyde exhaust CPU in that space on my 2022 R18 B; perhaps the existing wiring is for the cellular SOS system? I'm sure if the SOS system was or is offered in the USA?

That’s probably a good guess. SOS is starting to be available in some US models, mainly the 1300gs.
