STILL NO REVERSE FIX - At what point can there be a class action lawsuit?

So I checked with the dealer's service manager today. He said no fix is in and nothing on the horizon. When I pressed him he said it may likely end up never happening, that I might have to settle for the $1K credit.

That kinna p*sses me off --having reverse was a main selling point feature of me buying the 850 lb R18. Did anyone read the fine print in the details of signing for their $ parts credit? As in, did it state that the credit compensates us fully therein nullifying any other outcome (fix) or judicial action?

How many people does it take to file a class action?

I hope/expect that all'of a sudden someone somewhere will get the call to go in for the fix and then there will be a flurry of activity trying to get booked in as word spreads. Today my new Roctane has been delivered (soooooo nice btw) and one of the guys delivering it was a tech who’d been with BMW donkeys years. He actually does the reverse disable and did my bike. He assured me BMW would sort this and thought it inconceivable they would ever just kick it into the long grass. I know it’s only one guys word but he was very reassuring so hopefully in a short while this will be resolved, for all of us, I do need my reverse to function because I will use it so have skin in the game as the saying goes. Too dark to take any photos now but will as soon as I can and post 👍

I've learned, after some frustration, to take any info/response coming from a dealer (BMW or otherwise) with a block of salt. When they think they know, it's often wrong, and too many times I'm more aware of things than they are. I can't imagine they disable and don't fix the issue. I didn't sign any kind of agreement around the compensation, so I don't think it's a matter of some kind of handshake around never fixing the reverse. We can always re-do the cables in there and have it running as @Star-Lord had done. I'll be hooking mine back up in spring if there's no word before then.

This recall was the best thing for me personally... I was able to fund some motorcycle bling that I had my eye on, minus the 300% BMW markup for the Roland Sands Design parts.. (basically free parts)

In addition, it forced me to dive a little more into the technical aspects of the entire Reverse system, and put in some more time wrenching on the bike - which is extremely therapeutic for me..

Win-WIN

It's looking that way for me too... Mine didn't come with an alarm option so I opted to get that plus a nice rear fender luggage rack to replace the back seat. And now that I found the directions to reconnect here I'm pretty happy. There's rarely any rain here in LA and I won't ride in it if there was so corrosion isn't an issue really...

However -- the fires....

Can you link me to your post for re-enabling reverse? Thanks!

Just hold off a bit. There is a member here, Frankie.vmc, that said he is taking legal action against BMW. Let's see how that goes.

Personally, I am happy with the compensation I got, and am confident a fix will come.

Same here, I was able to finish off my list of RSD parts and Roctane parts without my wife getting upset with my spending 🤣 on my R18B

we should rather push it as lemon law instead of lawsuit. how can you file a lawsuit if the company is already offering compensation.

Your luck with lemon law will vary state by state. The criteria for cars is pretty rigid, and where bikes might be covered, I’d expect the same rigidity. And in Michigan, motorcycles are not covered.

I do believe we’ll get a fix. None of anyone’s dealer contacts knew shit about the headlight fix until it came out through BMW when it was ready. I don’t expect anyone to have enough inside insight to know anything on the reverse. So, as a reminder, huge block of salt is recommended with anything the dealers are telling anyone.

It’s just a reverse module. Don’t think that a top factory like BMW will not have a solution, is not the first bike with that function. Stop thinking like Harley Owners
