might need to tap on you for a tutorial. Searched and found your pics but nothing substantial enough for me to tackle the gig. I likely need a little more of a walkthrough for my B if you're willing (or a link to something I may have missed.) I appreciate it!
Maybe we can get that jerk ScottSemone to make a YT video on reversing the Reverse functionality, for those who had the recall work performed?

The below image is pretty detailed:

Looks like the one cable is pretty simple (between the reverser and starter motor). You had mentioned in one of these threads that the other cable goes onto the transmission case. Trying to make sense of that one in the pic here...

Hope you don't mind... made a clearer copy to help :)

States “temporary” and doesn’t seem to bind the accessories to any conditional acceptance of the issue not being remedied in full.

The US notices don’t mention a lick about compensation, so many of us have had to pointedly ask the dealer. Curious how many get the fix and aren’t aware and end up with zero out of this.

Thanks for posting the letters. The implication is that BMW UK carried on delivering R18s after March knowing the “stop” notice had been issued without informing customers, me included. I suspected this was the case and the letter confirms it so I’ll be asking my dealer for his comments on this.

Please share the bull manure once it’s served. Always interesting to hear how these guys battle their way out of accountability.

I might have a picture of the Ground landing lug on the transmission case; you might be able see it if you lay down and look just above the foot pegs and the frame.

It was a PITA to get to it, it took lots of patience and a long flexible extension (Torx - Allen).

Any help you’re willing to provide me (and us!) would be amazing. I assume there will be a bunch of us reinstalling the cables come spring.

and any details on what tool or extension in particular you used to get it done would be great.

Once you’ve gotten to the bolt with the extension, how much of a bear is it to get the cable on? And then where’s that one connect to?

Funny that it says that the retailer must bear the cost of the accessories or did I understand incorrectly?
If this is the case, then no wonder I have not received any notification.
I spoke with my dealer a month or so ago. I asked him if corporate or the dealership was absorbing the costs of the recall compensation. He stated, unequivocally, that corporate was absorbing all the costs. He read their notification letter to me over the phone and it was quite clear.

That would have made sense to me. 👍

The dealership only removed the single 12V (+) positive cable on my First Edition; however, they removed both the positive (+) and the Ground (-) on my FE Model B, which added a bunch more work to the overall job.... but absolutely achievable..

Update for Australian R18 bikes, specifically Victoria.
I took my R18 in for its complimentary 10,000km service and asked if there was any update on when the replacement parts might be available. I ws told by the Service Manager that they, the local dealer, hadn't received any word from BMW.

Ride the storm, it will pass😉

I was informed by the BMW rep for Australia at the 2024 Australian motogp at Phillip Island that BMW were "hopeful" of a full resolution by Christmas 2024, or January 2025 at the latest. Of course these statements always must be accompanied by a caveat - ïf all goes according to plan". Hopefully the fix is not too far off. For the present, I don't need reverse, picked up an itsy bitsy stone chip somewhere in the never-never of New South Wales' fantastic "Newell Highway" (if you can really call it anything more than a "goat-track" - and that was atop having laid the bike down [ever so gently] on sodden soil and loose "blue-stone" on the edge of said highway. All covered by insurance [$100 excess - for my Aussie compatriots who are over the mythical mystical and magical mile-stone of 50... I'm with APIA insurance]. On appraisal my once thought "stone chip touch-up" has morphed into 1. replace and respray batwing fairing, 2, replace font crash-bar [no apparent damage, slight road-rash on the underside that you can barely see, let alone feel], 3. replace the rear left-muffler [again, 2 itsy bitsy little dents on the underside of the muffler that you would need to lay on the road underneath the bike and look up to see, and again, yes - let alone be able to feel].... total estimated cost to date --- $10k+. Having the "Wunderlich" paint protection fitted afterwards... that's an entirely new story - $800 for the kit... BMW charge $1K to install. Yes, it will put a slight gleam on the "Manhatten Matte" matte paint finish, but it is better than picking up a stone chip on every long trip!
