HI All,

As I'm planning on the things I wished to do on my R18 recently, I was thinking about the getting additional brake light and Signal lights.

As i understand that the bike runs on the Canbus system, to be able to tap another power source, it have to be through the standard connections and if the power required is too large, it will create a FaultCode.

Have any one run the bike currently with an additional brake light similar to this kind?
only when the brakes are activated.

For the Signal lights, I'm intend to have this mirror replacing the stock mirror and the LED lights, will be linked to the DRL from the main headlights.

Anyone knows if the extra DRL/signals lights and the extra brake lights will cause any Canbus error code?

Or if there is anyway I can code the Canbus system to handle the extra electrical load?

TIA

i'm on the way of creating a Twin headlight setup on my 100th..

always wanted a cruiser with a Twin headlight... although 2 of the R18's stock 7" headlight is kinda too BIG, But I will try with it and see how well it goes..

my current bike does have a small fly screen that's from a R9t as per the additional image

mock-up picture in comparison with it's closest

here's how the existing fly screen on bike looks like, most likely the 2 ends of the screen will be cut off once the twin headlight is working

Yes, I can confirm that the canbus system will not allow much extra electrical load on various circuits.

I fitted one Denali additional LED brake light & it worked no problem but when I added another one the brake light circuit went into fault mode, (and recorded it in the module, easily cleared with RS911).

I got around the problem by fitting a solid state relay (minute power draw) in parallel with the brake light circuit to activate the relay and took an accessory feed through the relay to power the new LED’s. Works fine now.

I had a similar issue with my Denali Soundbomb horn.

Good luck with your mods!

IMG20241021020100.jpgsome follow up on this headlight mod..

Gotten the clips connected and tested

The T joints managed to connect to both lights IMG20241021213053.jpg

That twin headlight setup really suits the bike - it might be a trick of the camera lense but the right headlight looks a bit higher than the left.
Yes, as I'm in RHD country, I have to adjust the right side to be lower then the left to avoid blinding opposite lane drivers.

This was taken just about 1week after I got the headlights installed so at time, it wasn't levelled.. so the headlights moved about a bit..

What is that device mounted on the handlebars..?

Breathe Alcohol Analyzer or a Power Ranger Super Weapon..?

the item is our stupid Toll device(OBU), our toll fees are paid via this stupid OBU when using certain stretches of roads in Singapore..
OBU stands for On Board Unit
Curious - To prevent dazzle, the beam pattern on any modern headlight (especially LED ones) will be specific to LHD or RHD so the physical height of the lamps will not make any difference.

The LED headlight which the R18 uses does not have the common, left or right side dip.
1749611470400.png this is the right side dip for RHD vehicle, picture from my other bike fitted with a Projector LED bulb.

Had my partner drove in front of the bike before and after the additional headlight to check.
the additional light widens the area of the light thrown on the road and with both lights on the same level, the 3 mirrors of the car got shone one all at once. Not good for any driver who happens to be in-front of my bike, so I lower the right side one a little.

i'm not going to the area where i shine both lights down to save every driver which will reduce the amount of road shone on at night..

But surely lowering the headlight a few mm cannot make any difference at all - the aim of the units is the only thing that will.
Have a look at any other twin headlight bikes (like the Rocket you used as an example) They all have symmetry and don't dazzle anyone, even with the same beam pattern
You could always rotate the lamps slightly to give a bias to the left if required.
I am just trying to figure out why you would mount them in that quirky, offset way - it just looks wrong in my opinion.
