People who have driven 7000km, 10000km, 20000km say that the sound of the fishtail is getting louder.
I wonder if it's just my imagination or if it's real.
I've driven 7000km and it's hard to feel that the sound has gotten louder.
It seems that it only happens when the air temperature or engine temperature rises.
Is there anyone who has really experienced the sound getting louder?

I'm using a translator. Please understand even if the sentences are awkward.

I don’t believe a motorcycle exhaust or a car by any accounts gets louder with mileage. 7000 is not mileage to be honest.
If you believe the exhaust is getting louder, chances are something is getting a bit loose or you may have a small whole somewhere. On cars that are driven in places where salt is spread over winter, corrosion can eventually deteriorate the exhaust system but I am talking over a space of several years and I don’t believe this is your case. Check your exhaust system in your garage or a parking lot when the engine is hot and it is running and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Automobile mufflers do not use fiberglass packing to muffle the sound pulses.
The packing in a motorcycle muffler dries out and shrinks as it deteriorates from use. That is why every OEM muffler I’ve ever left on for any length of time has gotten louder with use.

How long did you drive? How many kilometers do I have to increase to see the effect?

I feel like the louder sound is just a placebo.

Thank you for that. I was aware of the fibreglass packaging actually from your post when you decided to go all black, which turned out awesome.
Would you say that the packing can go bad on as little as 7k?
It seems premature to me. Would it be a case that the bike is not being used regularly and this could cause the FG to deteriorate quicker?
Cheers

My wife’s Indian Chieftain has 11,000 miles on it and her OEM mufflers are considerably louder than a stock bike.

Wow. I never noticed a noise increase on any of my previous bikes. The M109R I had for 15 years and a decent mileage on it, remained at the same level during that time or at least I did not notice. Maybe it did not have a fibreglass packaging and instead had different chambers inside the muffler.
I have not noticed it either on my B. Can one assume the B muffler has packaging?
Cheers

I am in the unique position of having replaced 1 year old (3k miles) fishtails with new ones, due to a van knocking over my bike while parked and having to replace some parts.

The new mufflers were definitely quieter than the ones I'd run 3k miles on. I was surprised how much of a difference there was.

Interesting.

That would because the change is gradual over time. It’s unlikely anyone would walk out to their bike one day and think it was louder.

So the sound volume on both sides of the muffler is different? Interesting

Fwiw.... in the dark old times, when one would service their bike "end can"..... either the "fibre glass wool" or " steel wool" would be replaced as it deteriated.... from what I can remember steel wool was louder and shorter lived.... or maybe it all got 2 stroke oily....

Any way, at 9,000km on my fishtails they are definately sounding better.... sorta Euro 4.5 now not Euro 5.... so still gentlemanly... but 85% of the time I'm riding fast so earplugs (for wind noise) stuffs it all up.... and is the reason I've not modified the pipes yet.

My r ninet exhaust is the same... has got a bit louder.

I really wish it would keep getting louder because I like the shape of the stock muffler.

Same here. A while ago I was considering the V&H exhaust but I was not fully convinced on the sound.
I like the OEM exhaust on the B, specifically the slash cut end. I just wish it was an teensy-weensy louder/rumbler.

Someome is sure to have had just the right mix of forgetfullness and new hearing aides given the average age of R18 owners.....

No, I replaced both mufflers since I found a deal on a pair of them that were taken off by my local dealer after I bought a pair of V&H mufflers of course. Having it louder on one side would have driven me nuts.
