2021 R18 Classic
Just wanted to share my issues and experience with Motorrad regarding premature chrome pitting on the engine front breast plate, rear brake lever and peddle, bottom of both floorboard assemblies, and several other spots around bike. This on a bike with just slightly over 500 miles when I took delivery over this past Memorial Day weekend in San Diego. Before the points about Cali salt-sea-air get raised, this bike was garaged from in service date ~04/22 before 1st owner having to give her up for declining health issues. I have started with my servicing dealer who has tried admirably (With No Results!!) to get past the F*&#!^G useless BMW area rep. who, to date hasn't even passed the claim forward to corporate. I know this as I have spoken with several very nice people there who had NO RECORD of the claim being submitted!! They keep quoting the warranty on "coatings" is 12/12, regardless of the obvious brevity of this bike's time on the road. This is my second R18 Classic, the first having been totalled out from under me on 04/05 of this year by yet another loopy PHOENIX!!! driver. My adjuster told me quietly that he stopped adding parts at almost $16K and was no where near finished??!! That bike, also having lived most of it's life-7500 miles at time of impact-in CALI, and an earlier in-service date with not one speck of rust anywhere. Hoping one or more of our group has had similiar experiences, and that we could consolidate our collective FORUM CLOUT to appeal en mass to the holy roundel. Love the bikes, but as generally wonderful as the machines are, it is appalling the way the company operates as regard to after-sale practice and support. I say this as having been a long time manufacturer's rep. in the automotive industry and dealing with every kind of dealership problem most of my career.
Sorry if this seems like a rant (Too Much Lewis Black comedy I suppose) but wanted to get my experience out to the forum and see what others might be experiencing in the field. Thanks For Listening

Hi W4H
BMW have just agreed to replace my rims, due to corrosion. I expected a bit of a tussle however, all was quick and easy. Wishing you some success one way or another.

For what it is worth WHH410, I keep cars, aircraft and bikes in a coat of aircraft Rejex corrosion resistant finish (Corrosion Technologies)....never had a problem with rust or corrosion. I don't believe anything is corrosion proof except perhaps a desert. Just a thought; however, I am concerned about your BMW reps response....pitiful!

Tex, Thanks...And not to be argumentative, but there still rust out here in the desert!! I've been coming to Arizona for over 30 years and always searching for Olde English cars/parts, (Another of my weaknesses!!) and have always been amazed to find at least surface rust...assuming the desert sun hadn't baked everything else off the car already. Appreciate the intel, but for 'Mistress Bianca' I fear we're a bit too late.

I've had parts replaced. Clutch lever brake lever Bar ends. Windshield bracket parts. Due to rust before warranty expired. Good luck. But I love my Bike. Dealership asked no questions ! Just ordered parts .
