    Transcontinental Seat Upgrade

I've found that stock seats get uncomfortable after an hour or two of overall riding even with bathroom breaks, stretching, food stops, etc. Everyone is different. My longest ride in one day is from Boise, Idaho to San Francisco on an FJR 1300. My rear and knees were killing me by the time I got...

    Transcontinental Seat Upgrade

Russell Seat, for sure. I have one on my R18 and my Super Tenere. Most comfortable motorcycle seats I've ever had. You can basically ride indefinitely instead of one to two hours before it gets uncomfortable. They completely live up to the hype.

Front And Rear Brake Pads Replacement

You use the screwdriver between the old brake pads you're throwing away. It doesn't scratch anything. You open the calipers just enough to make up for the additional brake pad material on the new pads, so they'll fit over the rotor.

Front And Rear Brake Pads Replacement

What are you talking about? On the bike. How do you get the calipers apart? Do you use magic 🎩 ✨️? Do you think the kid at the tire shop has a PhD in brakes? I've changed brakes on every bike I've had for thirty years, rebuilt engines, change my own tires, fluids, rebuilt carbs. I'm just trying...

Front And Rear Brake Pads Replacement

Do it yourself, really easy. Would you take your car to the dealer for every little thing? Take the calipers off, with the old brake pads still installed, pry a flat screwdriver between the bads to open the calipers, remove the old brake pads, new ones on, put the calipers back in the rotor...

    Duration of ownership??

I think the other posts summed up the other points, but I have 10,500ish on mine, and I love it. I've put more miles on it than my super tenere in the same time, which is a great bike too. This is the r18 forum. We like the bike. If you want the perfect bike get a gs1300, 🤣

    Duration of ownership??

Also, it's really not that uncommon for people to buy new motorcycles, not ride them very much, and then sell them. Craigslist is full of bikes that average less than 1000 miles a year.

What Bike Would You Trade Your R18 for?

K1600, 1000 XR, RT1250, Goldwing, GS, Tracer 9 GT+, MT10 SP, Kawi H2 SX....but I've realized that I'll always want one more bike, no matter how many I have. Each bike has its strength and weaknesses. I have a Yamaha Super Tenere; it's the perfect bike, but yet it's not... My R18B is the...

How to Lube the Driveshaft Splines?

Does anyone know the procedure to lubricate the driveshaft splines?

    Diy

Do it yourself, it's easy. Enjoy the fact that almost everything in the bike is right in front of you, not much to remove to get to stuff. I had the dealer do the first oil change, but have done everything else myself, including tire changes.

    R18 vs Harley

No, I don't think so. Rent one for a day or a few days to see for yourself or go test ride one to compare. Harleys are great too, but they are not better.

While Ryan F9 might not love BMW, his data loves the R18 engine reliability apparently

Great post. I think this is one of the most overlooked things about our bikes, they are basically the tried and true bmw airhead/oilhead that's legendary for reliability. When you need to work in them, almost everything is right there. You don't have to spend 7 hours removing plastics to get to...

DNA Air Filter and Air Box Cover Like New

The air box in under the gas tank. There are some videos of how to change the air filter, not difficult. I think Sands did a full exhaust, probably without the cats, and opened up the air box, but I'm just guessing.

Engine crash bars for the Bagger

I have the Hornig engine bars, and they are really solid, great quality. Just my 2 cents.

My Baby is home with her sibling :-)

Good looking bikes. I want a T120 too, lol. That 100 years is completely gorgeous.

DNA Air Filter Cage and Stock Air Filter

I went back after it tonight. Pulled the air box cover off, put the screws in and got the inserts seated on the bottom, backed out the screws, and now the frame fits tightly. Thanks again for checking BigJimSlim. I didn't want to chase my tail if it needed a thicker air filter to work.

DNA Air Filter and Air Box Cover Like New

Exactly. I think Roland Sands or his team said they found 20hp in the R18 just by opening up the air box and exhaust system, without a tune. The article I saw mentioned that they could probably find more but they were worried about the clutch being a weak point if they upped the HP too much.

DNA Air Filter Cage and Stock Air Filter

Thanks for checking. I'm thinking that the brass inserts for the screws in the air box are not fully seated or something. Thank you for checking. Happy Holidays.
