I picked up a voltage reducer, wired.the micro.switch on my GDO to a remote switches and tapped into the accessory feed on the dash on my bagger. It looks and works perfect.

Taking the cover off is a big job. You'll have to undo the side frame rails going from the bottom frame to the top. Probably both sides. You'll have to loosen all mounting bolts on the bottom of the rails so that you can pull them outwards to give clearance to get to the outer screws of the cover.

Did you put those bar end lights on a euro model or US model of the R18? The CAN Bus is different on them and the Euro model is probably easier to do it on.
