I can see your point, but besides weight there are factors like ground clearance, leverage, design of the center stand and lifting technique. My R1200RT was a tad heavier than your GSA but I put it on the center stand without much effort - perhaps they were different designs. I imagine I would...
I'm hoping this center stand from BMW will materialize and be suitable for the R18: https://www.r18forums.com/threads/electric-or-hydraulic-centerstand.2051/post-29282
Thanks for those tips, I guess I'm guilty of using WD-40 mostly for lubrication, when there are so many other use cases! Such an easy service on the switch controls, and I'm gonna try it on rims and tires too.
Seems like a good precaution! Do you spray beside the buttons or do you dismount the switch controls or the handles?
Would spilling leave stains on the switch controls? Some plastics seem to absorb oil.
Reading interesting posts, I sometimes find myself wondering which R18 model the poster owns (if it isn't obvious). I think it would be nice if the forum allowed you to indicate your R18 model(s) in the left column below your username. If there's room for a web link, there's gotta be room for...
I bought the R1200RT new in 2005 and it was delivered with an OEM digital oil temp gauge. Perhaps it was part of some package along with cruise control etc. The oil cooling fan was only on the police model.
I'd think that many modern BMW motorcycles have an oil temp gauge, but it's my guess...
My R1200RT had a digital one. In really slow traffic I could see it rise a bit. The R1200RT-P had an oil cooling fan, presumably for idling by the road side.
Given that some forum members have gotten an engine temp warning to shut off their R18, an oil temp gauge seems to be a reasonable idea. I'd like to be informed of a temperature rise before an engine temp warning comes on.
I'm not the worrying kind, but to me a temp gauge seems to be a normal...
My issue is mini-blinkers, never liked those.
I think the mod could be done if you could manufacture a thick enough spacer which matches the fastener on the bike in form. In other words, a new fastener attached to the old one. Requires engineering skills though and possibly a 3D-writer.
Or you...
I was referring to the whole plug being magnetized by induction, but I don't know what type of (stainless) steel would be suitable for a magnetic oil plug.
But you are most probably right, and thanks for the pic which helps to clarify. Still, I'm surprised that there isn't a small amount of...
Could be a core, but it would have to be pretty small/thin to fit inside the thread only. Magnetizing the whole plug would be easier/cheaper I think. But I don't know.
I know that many fridge magnets are magnetic on one side only, but they are flat, don't know the reason/technique.
Anyone...
Is the engine oil plug supposed to be magnetic? I watched a video where they said it's magnetic, but when I checked on my R18B it wasn't. Admittedly, the plug is still on the bike so I checked it from the outside, but there was no magnetic force at all so I can't imagine the inside would be...
The spacer solution looks difficult, perhaps impossible. From RyBread's picture it seems that the spacer would have to support the blinkers too.
If one would be up for the task - approximately how far would the blinkers have to moved, i.e. how thick would the spacers have to be?
a) for the...
