I understand the temptation ($$$), and have read many positive comments from serious riders that I have no reason to dismiss as "internet chatter", but I agree with @RhoXS that I would only use one as a last resort. The "cruiser" rear tires last quite a long time, but with the R18 weight and...
This has been discussed on various forums for years. BMW has spec'd "1 time use" hardware for many years, but they don't appear to be this way due to being a "stretch" design rather they are coated in a "micro" thread locker. With an undamaged bolt being properly cleaned one should have no...
@Anibal is correct. There are tank-frame design differences that prevent the larger B/TC tank from being able to be fitted on the R18/Classic models (unless spending $$$ to redesign and fabricate the hard parts).
I’ve ridden my R18C on multiple long distance tours and the smaller petrol...
Software is above my pay grade, but my swag is this is a hardware issue and if it were me I would do the simple troubleshooting steps first. I would replace that fuel soaked plug as part of the first steps taken. Modern plug materials and high energy ignitions can only go so far and if...
Welcome Joe, I see you have a nice BMW stable and while the R18 certainly is at the other end of the spectrum from your RS and S it should add a great option and a bunch of fun riding.
Some more background may help.
She's not under warranty?
How many miles on her, have you had it since new...
You would have to ask Mobil that question. They have various "proprietary" blends according to their website, which also lists OEMs that approve various offerings and BMW is left blank in all categories. This type of guessing is why oil threads are or become useless, there are simple facts OEMs...
Welcome and the setting for your bike's photo is awesome!
The Classic was my choice too and whenever I change bikes I always ride for a thousand miles or so prior to changing things. I usually see minor ergonomic annoyances get better as muscle memory changes, etc., so discomfort becomes a non...
Buy what you want. My point is there are many top shelf brands of oil that meet spec and while there may not be be an issue(?), the simple fact is Mobile 1 V-Twin does not claim to meet spec. There can be numerous reasons, but rather than guessing or arguing beliefs, it's a simple question to...
From the R18 owner's manual;
Engine-oil specification SAE 15W-50, API SJ /JASO MA2,
From Mobile 1, V-Twin 20-50 product guide;
This product meets or exceeds the requirements of:
API SJ
Applications
• Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 is specifically recommended by ExxonMobil for lubrication of...
Plenty of comments in various oil threads to read through with a quick search.
The advertising on the front label means little as it is the Spec listed on the back that should be met regardless one's favorite Brand. BMW has used Castrol, Spectro and now Shell as their vendor for their BMW...
If you are keeping the F850 and replacing the Duc with the R18 for the travel you describe you will have a very complimentary stable for best bike for the day’s activities. It would be sad to see the Duc go.
It took me approximately 100 miles of riding interstate, curvy farm and mountain roads...
Good advice above for adjusting shift lever and as to engine heat I have some suggestions if you get one and folks here would chime in too. I often try to get something very different when I change bikes every couple of years and made a similar change to my R18 with a few more steps in between...
Not sure if EU bikes have it now, but it used to be a unique US emissions component. See item #11 in the ventilation and emission monitoring diagram in "#16 fuel supply".

OP indicates the fuel tank has been previously replaced, shouldn't matter, but possibly a vent line was pinched or ? Also if overfilling it is possible to saturate the charcoal filter and this can cause problems. Not sure that is oil looking at the photos, unless there is something I'm missing...
+1 on Old Man v. #30 yo....
The carcass may be the same size, but ratings are different as I recall when I was thinking about better gravel road options the "adventure" tires offer (yes I've done a bunch of gravel standing on the pegs for the most part the big girl does better than I thought...
NO. Go to the shop while under warranty and if that is not feasible correspond by email with photos so you have an established timeline and "paper trail" and get their assurance it will be covered as a reported "warranty claim". Do not wait for the clock to run out and then say you want...
Not sure why you are having to figure this out quick? You are under warranty, take some photos showing it continues to weep (more for record keeping if needed) and then let the dealer inspect and repair as needed.
If you were out of warranty I would bet with the low mileage that asking for a...
