It took me a couple of reads to understand what you meant by removing the stripes, but I agree it looks better without them. I truly feel the R18 is a 'less is more' sort of machine.

Funny that you mention waxed cotton. I still break out a Barbour International from time to time. I don't have many miles on it yet, but it does seem like an improvement over the stock seat. I kept the stock seat so I can switch back if I care to.
