I did a search for the R18 OEM oil filter number and it matches the number listed in the Amazon listing, so it SHOULD be the right design. As for Amazon's vehicle-to-part recommendations, I've found it to be wrong almost as often as it's correct.

I suspect that BMW went with the irregular idle in Rock because the majority associate it as a "hot rod" trait. I kinda like it. It's quite similar to the idle that my Stage 3 Roadmaster exhibits. I can understand why a rider might prefer a smooth idle. We're all individuals here.

I agree that the R18 is just so beautiful, it's a shame to clutter it up with gadgets. But sometimes necessity is the mother f*cker of invention. I love "getting lost" in my new home state and Tomtom keeps me from staying lost. ;)
