A couple weeks ago I noticed a smudge around the hub indicating a smidge of seepage or something but wasn't enough to spin off onto the rim like your pictures show. i cleaned it off and has not reappeared in last 1000 miles or so.

I leave it in gear at most stops, better to move quickly if needed, try to leave room in front to steer out of line. I will usually go to N in long construction waiting lines or if a bridge is up.

Yup! Using the grey key, same with fob if battery is dead. The antennae is located under the seat, the key has to be held within a couple inches of it. On a low enough seat (like the stock FE) you can usually get it to work from top of the seat, but it always works when reaching underneath...
