Most of the buffeting will come from down below ... search the forum ... there are options for the TC to relief that issue ... for the FE and the Classic it is the Memphis Shades option and I believe on the TC it is the 'Winglets' ... give that a whirl ...
I see ... well you may change your mind down the line ... the maintenance on these bikes is quite easy ;)
This said ... have your mechanic check the valve lash ... if I remember right that will be the case on your next service anyway.
That is (IMO) pretty much normal .. do you do your own wrenching? ... If so check the valves next time you change your oil .. it is not hard to do and it will give you piece of mind ;)
Nope the R18 has solid cam followers and is a relative noisy valve train ... now it could be still something more ... but first impression is a 'loose' valve ... not to worry ... valves on the 'loose' side are just noisy not harmful ... too tight ... now that can be a problem :)
How many...
Do you have one of these infra red heat guns? ... that way you can turn both on for the same length of time and setting and check ... that way you have a real comparison, before you (maybe) start chasing an issue that may not be there ... just my 2¢ ;)
Add: Kickstand down and a few seconds of idling ... then pushing the 'Ignition' button to turn it off and I have almost never issues.
I have been reading the previous posts and IMO you are all way over thinking his ... some of these procedures sound like 'The Kickstart Procedures' from...
Hmmm that is a good question ... the parts diagram is no use here
I expect he 2 halves to have o-rings between them ... but honestly ... don't split them if you don't have to ... it is messy, asks for leaks and you have to bled the brakes after ... wiggle the pads stick some needle nose down...
Damn ... well it looks like you are changing pads .. so no need to worry about the existing ones
... I would put a few drops of penetrating oil here:
All along that pin (that is the one you are trying to get out) and then use needle nose pliers
right here to push it out until you can grab...
Angle the wrench a bit and pull at he same time ... or needle-nose-pliers ... its just a locating pin with threads at the end ... it should slide right out.
