I did that on my Freedom Performance mufflers, and have done the same with V&H mufflers on one of my Harleys years past. It made a big difference in tone on the R18 Freedom Performance exhaust. It's a little louder, too. My wife prefers it, if that counts :)

Why do you feel they are junk? Mine are very nice quality. Did you get a set with something wrong?

Go back and look at the dyno sheet in the 3k-4k rpm range. The increase there is a lot more than 4 HP and TQ right in the range where it is needed. Just getting rid of that annoying dip in performance in that rpm range was worth the cost to me.

What do you think about the sound of the revised exhaust?

I measured the inside diameter of the muffler to determine the hole saw size. I recall that i thought 1.5" was slightly too big and would hit the side of the outside baffle. But take your own measurement and let us know what you think

1.5" is a possibility but it will be very tight.
