The BMW manual (I trust the info there more than AI) says the spare key “must be inserted “ ( in bold letters) to start the bike - I’m still waiting to be enlightened about how a plain plastic key with no electronics transmits to the ring antenna - but hey, if yours does, good on ya.

Electronics for 40 years? Then maybe you can explain how a key with no electrics can activate a remote ignition because I don’t see how that’s possible.

That’s kinda strange, there’s no electronics in the plastic spare key, it’s supposed to be inserted like a regular key. BTW, the idiot light with the key and question mark means the fob is too far away, there’s a separate light for low battery.
