    100th Anniversary R18 Value

In general it seems to me that special editions of anything aren't what ends up desirable over time. It usually ends up where bone stock versions of something with just a few years of production is what ends up desirable. Think 50's Les Pauls. With respect to BMWs, it'd be something like a...

What did you do to your R18 today?

I remember that there was a discussion here regarding if these cooler covers had a negative impact on cooling efficiency, but I don't recall if that was just theoretical or real-world. Has anybody with these covers experienced an increase in over-heating while in traffic in hot weather?

    Roland Sands Custom Bobber

I'm not a fan of the seat. If I'm going that route, I'd rather see something that looks closer to the old Denfeld style seat.

    Hello from Maryland

Hi JayB, The heritage seat actually looks pretty good with the stock rear fender. Still and all, e66's with the bobber kit looks fantastic, but I'm surprised at how nice the seat looks with the stock configuration.

    Speedometer error?

That's just not so. I design these things for a living, including one of the first panel mount GPS receivers PMAd for GA aircraft and what was (I think) the very first WAAS enabled receiver for GA. Velocity is not determined by differencing position measurements. In fact, for most kinematic...

    Speedometer error?

Not that it actually matters for this discussion (the speedometer definitely indicates fast), but for the purposes of measuring velocity, I can assure you that your handheld GPS receiver doesn't need integrity monitoring. The velocity measurement emphasizes different observables and the doppler...

    Rear Bag Solution

I sprung for the wunderlich rack for the tail. I never ride two up on this bike, and the rack itself looks like a /2 rack, which is actually nicer looking than the pillion seat. In any case, the rack size works perfect with my tail bags for the R1250GS that have the hard plastic bottom with...

Help, I may have lost my mind ...

Don't see 'em on an R90s very often, but I'm sure it's a sweet ride! I've been on the lookout for an original paint daytona orange R90s for quite some time.

    Other BMWs?

Discovering that there was a problem didn't require Columbo. I was accelerating at around 30mph and there was a big "BANG!!!". Fortunately I was on my way home, and was only a mile or so away. The thing made a huge racket after that, and I thought it had to do with the transmission. But it...

    Other BMWs?

This thing is finally back up and running. It's quite the "event" when a crank goes. Finding a replacement crank for a '57, and then finding somebody to rebuild what you find (because they all seem to need it) isn't a quick process. All is well that ends well though, and it's up and running...

    Innovv dash cam

Interesting product. Have you guys created any content with this, or are you using it for the purpose of documenting any traffic incidents?

    Engine rattles?

Short answer to this is "no". I have everything from /2s to a contemporary R1250GS. The R18 is not out of the ordinary, and if you are hearing it at speed through your helmet, it doesn't seem "normal" to me. The fact that the noise appeared after you added the extra oil strengthens my...

    Engine rattles?

From Flash's post, it sounds like he's had other boxers and his R18 engine noise is out of the ordinary. It'll be sorted out once he gets it to the dealer, I'm sure. I'm still skeptical that it really needed nearly 2 quarts and wonder if it isn't now overfilled. It would have required that it...

    Engine rattles?

What makes you think that it was shipped with something other than regular engine oil? I definitely agree though that they made it harder than it needs to be to check the oil.
