    Hex GS-911 Question

Amazon is probably as good a place as any. Price seems to be the same everywhere. Depending on what you want to do with it, OBDLink is less than half the price. I use it to reset the service reminders on both the 1250GS and R18.

    Hard starting

Definitely wasn't a fluke. It behaved that way for about a year. It wasn't a big deal. I just accepted that it took a couple of hits on the starter. I don't think it stopped doing that suddenly...but eventually I realized that it was starting on the first try.

    Hard starting

Ironically, it hasn't happened in ages. I can't really attribute it to anything. It never left me stranded in any case.

OBD Linx LX and Motoscan Software

Works, but both it and the OBDLink are a bit clunky. I didn't have an Android phone, and MotoScan only works on Android. No biggie. Ordered a $40 Android tablet that arrived same-day. The OBDLink took a few tries to get working and paired with the tablet. The only way I got MotoScan to work...

Hello! Thinking of the R18C for First Bike...

I'll ask an indelicate question.. How old are you? My first inclination is to say that a bike is a bike, and you'll get used to the R18 in short order whether it's now or later. When I started riding, I'd ride pretty much anything. Never really understood the hand-wringing associated with...

    Don't stuff your Classic bags

Now that you mention it, it does seem like everyone who has had this problem has had it on the left side bag. I'm not sure it's a requirement from a safety standpoint (the reflectors on the fork are all that is required I think) but it's a warrantee issue for sure. I had forgotton about this...

High pitched hum/whistle noise from engine?

Sounds like a different thing. My fuel pump whine definitely did not alter as a function of rpm or clutch engagement. The software update completely eliminated it. While your issue may be common, I don't think it's "normal". My bike definitely doesn't do that.

    Hot starting issue

Different folks here may be having different issues, but the two times it happened to me it was definitely not fuel and definitely not battery. I never had the thing start and die...it just wouldn't start after driving for a while followed by a short stop. In my case at least, time (about 15...

That 100th anniversary R9T in the background is gorgeous.

A few working photos from today...

I agree with the above poster. Your exhaust was the closest to the original concept that I have seen. Why did you stop selling them?

    Dealer ECU updates

It isn't harmful (at least that's what BMW says), but it is annoying. It's really only noticeable (to me anyway) at slow speeds and while idling at a light. My bike was the first that my dealer did the fix on, so they asked that they be able to keep it in case anything went wrong with the...

    Dealer ECU updates

I have a '21 and I had a software update. Don't think it affected the tune at all, but it did fix the fuel pump whine. So, there is indeed a software update out there that they'll do for free.

    Is my battery weak?

OK, fair enough, but why not use the charging port? In any case, if your battery is fully charged when you are running your experiment, your charger shouldn't be operating at 14.4v when in the maintenance phase. Some smart chargers go into a sample and pulse mode where they essentially...

    Is my battery weak?

Where are you connecting your charger?

    Is my battery weak?

The original question was if a battery voltage of 12.8 was "too low" with the bike "on", but the engine not running. The answer is no. Your battery is a 12V battery, not a 14V battery. What your particular external charger outputs while charging the battery is beside the point. You are...

    Is my battery weak?

The voltage at the output terminals of the BMW charger is 12V (+/- a few tenths) and switches to 14 (plus or minus a few tenths) when the battery is charged and the charger is in maintenance mode. Different chargers operate differently. In any case, your battery, while not hooked to a charger...

    100th Anniversary R18 Value

Unless BMW goes out of business and stops providing parts, why is it a problem if they stop producing the R18? They only made the R90S for three years, and if anything that just added to the mystique. Not that that's important, but I doubt that there will be a parts shortage in any case.

    Is my battery weak?

14V is what comes out of the bike's charging system. The battery tender charges at 12. The battery by itself will never output more than 12V +/-.

    Customs R18

Interesting. They went to the trouble to customize this thing, but kept with the stock C pipes. I'd have thought that something not quite as long would have been more appropriate for this build.
