Thanks but the Green lobby might feel that you are giving praise to a junky for having a fix. Must admit I do love riding it. It has led to my older bikes being a bit neglected.
Excellent review. With you all the way on your comments. One further point I would add is the front mudguard is not fit for purpose. One short stretch on a wet road and the bike is filthy. I have been asked a couple of times if I had been off road riding. So far just over 7000 miles and love...
After 2000 miles there was a considerable improvement in MPG. I found my R18 motor very tight when new and ran it in old school. By that I mean in a progressive manner. It was pleasant feeling it loosen up as the miles increased.
R18C is a good tourer but needs a better seat. I have fitted a Corbyn but not yet done a good days riding on it since. Certainly feels a lot more comfortable.. The fuel tank at 16 Litres is limiting but this is mitigated by very good mpg once the engine is run in. Around 60 mpg imp at a steady...
Yesterday I at last gave the reverse a try out of curiosity rather than need. It worked very easily indeed going into and out of reverse without any problems.
I have had a slight amount of neck / shoulder ache but wondered if it was the screen being a little low. DK design products look decent but their postage rates seem very high to the UK. I am tempted by the front mudguard but hope that as normal trade patterns resume the postage costs might reduce.
I had mine in for a service yesterday. The Transcontinental looks nice with a proper front mudguard and the bigger tank. Against it I prefer the less fussy looks of the Classic. The more I ride it the more I like it.
I have not suffered any white finger on my Classic but without doubt it has smoothed out as I have done more miles. At first the motor felt very tight. How many miles has the bike done so Cheshire Cat ?
If you want to play safe buy from Japan seems to sadly be the answer. Europe and the USA do at times seem to treat the customer as a test bed for their products. Having said that mine is doing well so far but fingers are crossed.
I have not seen the latest versions of the R18 models but take it from the above comments that the new models have metal front mudguards . I was hoping that they would have been plastic of the quality of my 1970's Beemers. Has anyone put the DK front mudguard on a Classic with the wider tyre ?
According to the onboard computer I am getting around 60 mpg (imp gallons). At first it was about 48 mpg but after the first 2000 miles it improved a great deal. The engine was very tight at first but is much easier now. Nearly 6000 miles so far.
