I keep going back and forth about whether I want to get these covers in the machined finish. I’m also on the fence about the machined replacement gas gap. With R18 day coming up there is some incentive. I have the machined valve covers on my bike.
My BMW F800ST had a clock and thermometer in the dash which I miss on the R18. While I know the R18 has a clock, I wish it were always visible regardless of the display settings. The thermometer in the R18 is for the engine temperature but not for outside air temperature. My interest in the...
I had put in an order the a Kryptonite New York Legend lock https://store.kryptonitelock.com/p/new-york-legend-chain-1515-w-new-york-padlock . It's getting shipped from overseas (not from that website) so who knows when I'll get it. I'll report on it when I've had time to try it out. I still...
I used a Kriega bag on my BMW F800ST for years. They work great. Very waterproof. I used to hold my laptop in it and there was never a sign of moisture getting in even through torrential downpours. Awesome space but I never bought a second bag to stack onto the bottom bag. The synthetic...
I put in an order for the Weekender seat at my local BMW dealer two weeks ago and it came in last weekend. Initially they said it could be over a month so if Revzilla runs out try your dealer. You might be surprised.
I installed the BMW windshield bag today. You mount a small/thin metal bracket under the two top screws that mount the Classic windscreen. On the bracket are two metal buckles that get inserted into the bag which you twist to keep the bag attached to the windscreen. The package includes a...
I finally wasn’t working on the weekend so I got the chance to do 4 things today. I liked Gilles’ mod for the oil cooler grill and those parts came in this week so that was put on. I was inspired by TheMucker’s pictures of the Weekender Seat so that went on. The machined cylinder head covers...
I had time to try the Zymol Tyre spray today. I went for a 30 minute ride after I applied it and then parked the bike in the Wheel Dock. I still get some squeaking from the tire but it went in fairly easily. I think it helped a little. I’m not sure I’d buy it only for that purpose.
Usually I’d laugh at that joke but my daughter and son-in-law are with the 82nd Airborne trying to get our people out of there. I’m not touchy, offended or any of the other crap but please let’s not go there. I come here so I don’t have to talk about that place.
I actually think my setup is...
I've been talking to Lockitt.com about chains and locks. I'm interested in a 16mm Pragmasis Protector Boron chain paired with an Abus Granit 37RK/80 padlock to either lock the front wheel to the frame or lock the frame to a floor anchor. I know the floor anchor is a better choice but the front...
I think I have some Zymol Tyre I want to try https://www.microfiberproducts.com/zy701typr12o.html . It’s not cheap but it has no silicon and it’s great on your tires. Will it actually help the tire slide into the Wheel Dock easier? No clue.
Actually I’m not concerned at all. I’m more interested than anything. I took a quick peek in one section that seemed to dive into topics a bit more but I didn’t see any improvements or changes listed. If I find anything worth it I’ll post it. Lately I’ve been working nights and weekends on top...
I bought the bike to ride it, not to sell it. As long as it isn't a lemon, BMW supports it and I have fun with it that's what counts to me. My last bike I kept 7 years and in immaculate shape. I hope to do the same with my R18 Classic.
I received an email from BMW today with links to the PDF rider manual for the R18 Classic and some videos. When I went to the site they had two versions of the manual, one from October 2020 and one from March 2021 and onward. I didn’t see anyone else mention any differences here. Does anyone...
I received the W-525 Wheel Dock for my R18 Classic and set it up this weekend. The unit is very high quality. The Wheel Dock fit is fairly tight but it seems to work well. I can hear the wheel squeaking slightly as it is inserted in the dock but the dock doesn’t move (as long as the bike is...
I went to the BMW dealer today and sat for about 10 minutes on the side of the R18 Classic looking at pictures of the Corbin Dual Touring Saddle and the Weekender to see what I liked. I spoke to the parts department and they wouldn’t take back the Weekender. I also found out it appears the...
I spoke to a sales person at Corbin in Florida. I found out that within one year of purchase they give you a free adjustment (you pay shipping too and from Corbin in California) to the seat as long as they can reuse the cover. So if you need extra padding or other modifications to padding...
