IMPORT R18 Transcontinental from Australia to America under a CARNET for 12 months + Insurance

G'day from Down under dodging kangaroos, wallabies, emus and other wild animals. Has anyone brought a motorbike temporarily into the United States from another country UNDER A CARNET? if you have, I would REALLY LIKE to chat with you. I would also want to hear how you went about getting US Insurance and how you used your overseas licence plus I guess an International Driving permit to ride in America. Cheers (Aerial picture of my town)

Wish I was able to give you sound advice...however, I have to say your town with its beautiful beaches, blue waters and manicured surroundings is something to be proud of! Never been "down under", but someday!

Most likely not helpful .. but having looked at importing (not temporary) a vehicle into the US and having lived there for years, it is gonna be a nightmare! You'd be best off just getting one there, but then on insurance .. a sh*t fight again mainly due to different States rules. It has been done though, so good luck.

Thank you. Australia is a beautiful country but I've covered just about every square inch, multiple times. As a Veteran, I get treated a lot better in the States!

I recently had a phone call with an hilariously funny lady agent at Progressive. A USD$35,000 BMW Z4 2021 was going to be north of USD$7,000 a year to insure with an Aussie licence! Madness

Holy $hit!!! You better off buying one here and then selling it for dumping prices when you are done with it and still save money! ... I am sorry to hear that, this said, if you make it to the Pacific North West ... give me a shout I buy you a beer ;)

Thanks so much! I love the North West...stunning places. Yes...I'm doing more research as I write. It's just ridiculous. Your "Ambulance Chasers" have done this to your country...made things so expensive...

Same project for me.
I'm thinking about bringing my R1200C Montauk in USA for one year or two. A friend can keep it in his garage in Anapolis.
I've figured out how to ship it but can't find how to insure it with a french licence.

The INSURANCE in America is insanely expensive for very little coverage compared to insurance I have in Australia and also in the UK (including all Schengen states). Give Progressive a call in the States. But maybe not motorcycles
