What did you do to your R18 today?

Today I finally made it to 1020 miles!!!! Did a nice 45 mile ride today to take it over the 1k. I gotta say I love this bike every time I look at it.
Congrats! I am at 4k already. Taking the AutoTrain in May heading to BMW RA Southern Alps, then AutoTrain back down. Expecting to ride just under 2K that week. Then have the 6K maintenance, once back.

I also realized that there are 2 things I would like in the near future… and will make install and review videos of course. I need some opinions on this.
First item is a replacement one for the one I currently have on my bike. I find mine is tilted too far back and has too small of a cushion compared to this one. Also it’s not leather and doesn’t match the weekender stitching. However look at the price of this one and compare it to my $99 backrest.. https://www.motea-shop.com/en_us/se...atible-with-bmw-r18-20-23-craftride-a244613-0
Second item is a replacement for my quad lock… as much as I love it. I worry about my phone in the sun and hate have to clip and unclip it. I would rather just have a built in system, so maybe something like a CarPlay unit I’ve been seeing on Amazon… it’s just the reviews are so spotty… anyone have one?

Well I built my own system. The LED strip I used is a COB strip which means it’s continuous. You can cut it at lengths like the regular strips. Then I ran wiring to each part I wanted lighted. Everything is controlled by a push switch I mounted on the cover where we have a charging port or power port. I’ll take better pictures tomorrow when I get to washing!

  1. Tank Machine seat, rear main light, and side license plate bracket.
  2. Rizoma Light Unit S indicators / brake lights.
  3. FCR Original Exhaust.
  4. RSD Black Machined Cylinder Covers and Engine Cover.
  5. Black powder coated intake covers and tank bracket.
Needs a rear fender and larger, lower profile rear tire next. And need to redo the handlebar, controls, and mirrors. In black, of course.

But damn do I love this bike. 2021 First Edition with 350 miles on it.

The sixth borough... FLORIDAAAAA.....

I like a functional fender. Before I took delivery of my DKCustom version, I got a pit in the front chrome engine cover.
I was running sans fender using a fork brace while I searched for a fender. I settled on a KlockWerks fender that is designed for an Indian Scout. It’s nice thick steel so I can mount it tight without working about a stone denting from the underside.
It also wraps low on the rear to protect that oil cooler and the expensive RSD breastplate.

Well, here comes vanity.
I have bought a private number plate from the DVLA and the title will arrive in two weeks. After that, I can apply to assign it to the bike. Get in !!!!!
The new plate will be R18 JUG.
I could not get plural or R18B / BAGGER or any other combo.

Got home from work a little early. I want to ride the bike to work tomorrow. Currently at 5995 miles and I guess cant go past 6000 without changing the engine and trans oil. Swapped in the DNA filter and bracket while I was there. Filter was dirty, trans oil was sparkley, engine oil was dark, and the oil plugs had no concerning chunks stuck to them.

Much success.

I don't have any more energy left in me today so the valve check will wait until this weekend.

The 60 dollar Harbor Freight wheel chock was definitely worth it.

PS - 3 of the 4 threadcerts came out with the airbox lid. Discovered the threadcerts are keyed for a hex or Allen key...can't remember what size exactly but it definitely was better than using one of the airbox bolts to reset and glue the insert.
