What did you do to your R18 today?

Finally took her out for the first time today since I got her and practicing around the parking lot. I leaned a bit much practicing a turn scrapped the engine guards a bit and it spooked me a bit. I got control of her but did end up dropping her right after because I thought I had the kickstand down looool

But damn was she a breeze to ride and you really don’t feel that weight once she gets going. I still need a lot more practice before I feel confident enough to get on the road with her, but once I get more familiar with the controls and getting better with the techniques and basics.

I didn’t mention this before on here but I’m a completely new rider and am just fresh off from my classes and getting my motorcycles license.

Used classic first edition copper badges on the fuel tank of my new TC... and changed out the satin cylinder head covers and shields for the chrome ones off a classic first edition... and of course the customized engine plate I had made in France. :)
Looking good ! Those copper roundals really go well with the tank color - are they genuine BM ones 2nd hand or eBay sourced ?

Whew! That’s a big girl for a first bike! I started with a 250, then a 650, then a 1200 before buying this bike. But at least you took all the classes, which is very smart! Good luck out there and stay safe!

I agree... That's a BIG GIRL for a new rider; my first bike was a BMW K75 S w/ ABS and Luggage Cases, then I went taller with a 2008 R1200 GS Adventure (on my tippie-toes), DUCATI Sport Classic (996), Sport Classic Monpostal 1000S and finally the R18 B - where my previous experience has helped tremendously.

Sorry to hear about the drop..

Oh yeah I definitely did the "don't buy a big powerful bike as your first bike" newbie thing. Friends and family actually had a different plan for me to learn how to ride, etc. but the deals that they were giving were also too good to pass up.

The R18 is such a good bike that they were like actually we're throwing our original plan out the window and just practice on your bike because she's actually way more beginner friendly, and very forgiving than she looks.

Ah no worries on the drop, as new rider I knew I would drop her eventually so that's why I bought engine guards ahahahah

I'm actually more bummed that I had did everything all good to recover her, but it was the old you "thought you put the kickstand down" that end up being my first drop.

Most embarrassing thing I ever did on a bike... I also have a '71 BSA Lightning, kick start only. I had parked it in front of a sidewalk cafe, and when I was leaving, went to kick start it, but forgot to put it in neutral first! I kicked that sucker hard, and it was in first gear. Bike lurched forward, ripped out of my hands, and flopped over on its side. In front of dozens of other bikers! I was so horrified that I wanted to change my name and move to Fiji or something.

Can you post pictures of the drop damage? Showing Engine Guard, Floorboard, Luggage Case & Exhaust; I'm sure most want to know if the engine guard does its job during a drop such as yours? Also, you mentioned practicing a U-Turn you scrapped the engine guard but recovered; did you mean the drag points on the bottom of the floorboard?

Sure when I get a chance I can post up pictures, but there was no damage to anything else other than the engine guards and the metal thing on the bottom of the pegs. Heck all the damage from the engine guards is from me scrapping it from leaning too hard in the turn. Engine guard did its god very very well with no damage on the bags, the exhaust etc.

WOW... I practice making U-Turns on my Model B from time to time; I'm just about 2.5 standard parking spots, I still haven't dragged the bottom of the floor boards...

Lol I took it too fast and went real wide and had to lean a bit more for to prevent hitting a fence.

I plan on practicing still and damn I want mine to get down to about that.

Is the badge from the guy only on Facebook?
