My fishtail exhaust project

Dave, that is an awesome throaty sound🙀. It would be nice to hear a hard take off!! Move over Harley!! Rear end is sexy. If that rear wheel is not 200 wide, when are you changing😄. I like the cool side jugs plate!! Very appropriate!! Please show side profile pics.
No need for a wider tire. I like the proportions of the stock size visually as well as the handling characteristics.

If you’re wondering what the inside of your head pipes look like. You can see the flapper in its natural open position. It still takes up a fair percentage of the available flow volume inside the pipe. The catalyst is encased in a stainless steel mesh so it’s not as simple as hammering it out.
I would be interested to know how the cat was removed.

I agree with you on every aspect Dave! I would love 230 rear tire but handling would be scary at the Dragons Tail! But the side jugs just wants a little bit more (200) if I can safely keep the stock wheel. For the people that have made the conversion and tire experts on safety, please chime in.

I am trying out a pair of the short honeycomb db killers. They don’t quiet the exhaust much but they do smooth out the exhaust more.
I’ll post a video as soon as have some time and nice weather.

We cut open a panel in the side of the head pipe and chiseled out the catalyst then welded the panel back on.
The catalyst is encased in a mesh so the job is very messy.
Hi Dave, I understand that when doing this conversion you have to remove the catalytic converter and fin assemblies.
Here in Europe, at least in Spain, it is impossible due to environmental controls. I am interested in doing something similar with other exhausts that are the same as the originals but keeping some untouched to pass inspections.
Is there any problem in doing the same but keeping both the catalyst and the fin?
I don't have much capacity for this topic.

Greetings and thanks

P.S. There is when you send us a video riding the donkey with that spectacular sound.

I said I’d document the fishtail exhaust modification project that I’ve commissioned a local fabricator to assist me with.

Here are a few pics of the inside of the mufflers after they were opened up.

Our plan is to tie the inlet end to the outlet with a SS slip pipe that provides a direct route for the gasses to flow through the mufflers.
The mesh that makes up the internal resonator will be removed to avoid any chance of ticking or rattling. The fiberglass packing will be reinstalled around the slip pipe before the outer casing is welded shut to minimize any chance of resonance.
Hi @MilwDave,
I just want to give a huge shout out to you for sharing. The shop on youtube holding on to what he did to the exhaust was frustrating me.
I do understand he is trying to run a business of modifying the fishtails, but the curious side of me aching to know what they look like on the inside was aggravated. So thanks again!

Anyway,
Hypothetical question. I know not everyone likes this, but assuming I wanted to drill a small hole for better sound. What position do you think would be best?
